Organised by Discover Adventure, this new trek gives a taste the awe-inspiring Sahara Desert. From flat desert floor to perfect wind-blown sand dunes, the trek is diverse and interesting. You will be trekking the vast unforgettable desert with a great group of Help for Heroes supporters and members of our Band of Brothers and Sisters fellowship.
Take the trip of a lifetime
Although sponsorship from your friends and family is amazing, getting creative and coming up with other ways to fundraise will provide a massive boost to your fundraising. You can do this by planning events throughout the months leading up to your challenge and for three months after the end of it – plenty of time to reach that magic target. Your fundraising journey is all part of the experience, so relish it!
It’s easier if you break your fundraising down into smaller monthly chunks and plan an event or activity for each month to hit that amount.
Your second target of £800 isn’t due until 5 June 2019 – six months after your first target.
As part of the Help for Heroes Trekking Team, here are just some of the things you can expect to benefit from:

Saturday 2 March – a beautiful sunrise reveals the colour of the landscape and as the trek heads along a dry river and heading into the desert hills walking through sand dunes and amazing scenery to camp in a sheltered spot among the hills.
Sunday 3 March – Following an unforgettable night under the stars the last section of the route continues through low hills and emerging into open desert with inspiring views of surrounding barren mountains. Walking over the desert floor or hamada, arrive at the remote town of Taghbalt to then drive back to Ouarzazate for evening celebrations in the hotel.
Monday 4 March - Leave Ouarzazate for London.
The suggested fundraising target for this challenge is £1,600, of which £800 must be received by Help for Heroes by Friday 7 December 2018 to cover the cost of your participation with Discover Adventure. The £800 we receive beyond this cost covering target will allow Help for Heroes to continue providing lifelong support to our wounded Servicemen and women. Ideally, we would like your fundraising to have hit £1,600 within six weeks of the challenge finishing.
Our tour operator grade this trek as ‘Challenging’ as the main challenges lie in the intense heat, and the terrain, particularly soft sand dunes, which can be very tiring. The trek is approximately 40km in total.
The Help for Heroes Events Team will work closely with you throughout your fundraising journey and share helpful tips and advice every step of the way. You will receive a comprehensive fundraising guide to help you get started, along with monthly fundraising ideas straight to your inbox!
It’s not just about sponsorship from friends – you can plan events throughout the build-up to your trek to help boost your fundraising total.
Raising funds is all part of the challenge and once you get into the swing of it you’ll be well on the way to your total in no time. Don’t look at it as one big scary sum of money – remember you’ve got the Help for Heroes Events Team on hand to give you advice and tips throughout your fundraising journey. We are here to help you not just achieve your target, but smash it – all while having a great time along the way!
