Top tips for your Charity Kilimanjaro Climb

Although sponsorship from your friends and family is amazing, getting creative and coming up with other ways to fundraise will provide a massive boost to your fundraising. You can do this by planning events throughout the months leading up to your challenge and for three months after the end of it – plenty of time to reach that magic target. Your fundraising journey is all part of the experience, so relish it!

It’s easier if you break your fundraising down into smaller monthly chunks and plan an event or activity for each month to hit that amount.

  • Your first target is £2,540 which is due Friday 6 July 2018. Take this amount and divide it by the amount of months you have until that date. You now have your monthly target.
  • Plan how you can make that monthly target. For some great fundraising ideas contact the Help for Heroes Events Team.

Your second target of £2,060 isn’t due until 11 January 2019 – six months after your first target.

The team is on hand to answer all your questions from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Whether you’re after event specifics, training tips or fundraising advice, we’d love to hear from you.

Where does my fundraising go?

The suggested fundraising target for this challenge is £4,600, of which £2,540 must be received by Help for Heroes by Friday 6 July 2018 to cover the cost of your participation. The £2,060 we receive beyond this cost covering target will allow Help for Heroes to continue providing lifelong support to our wounded Servicemen and women. Ideally, we would like your fundraising to have hit £4,600 within six weeks of the challenge finishing.

What will the trekking be like?

Discover Adventure grade this trek as ‘Extreme’ as the terrain is very varied as you pass through different eco-systems and ascend the mountain, with the trek being approximately 90km in total. The main challenge on this trek is the altitude. The Machame Route you will take allows for excellent acclimatisation to the altitude as it contours around the mountain, rather than going straight up. Symptoms of being at altitude include tiredness, shortness of breath, headaches and nausea, and can affect people very differently. If a participant is suffering from the effects of altitude it may be necessary to walk them back down the mountain.
