Help for Heroes was delighted to work in partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion to support the UK Team for the 2016 Invictus Games.
The Invictus Games 2016 took place in Orlando from 8th – 12th May.
Help for Heroes led the work to train, select and develop the 108-strong UK Team. The Royal British Legion led work to support the team’s friends and families in the UK and US who play a critical and often unsung role in recovery. Jaguar Land Rover UK were proud supporters of the UK team.
The team comprised both Service Personnel and Veterans. Selection for the team was based on the benefit the Invictus Games could give an individual as part of their recovery, combined with performance and commitment to training.
Getting involved in sport helps an individual with self-confidence and feeling psychologically empowered. These significant mental health benefits can be translated outside of sport and into everyday life which is why events such as the Invictus Games are so important.
The Invictus Games is a multi-sport event that is open to all wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans. The Invictus Games Foundation was set up to pursue and develop the legacy of the Invictus Games. It manages the process of selecting the hosts of future games and overseeing their delivery. In July 2015 Prince Harry, the Foundation’s Patron, announced that the 2016 Invictus Games had been awarded to Orlando, Florida.
