Tedworth HouseDefence Recovery Capability

The Defence Recovery Capability (DRC) was established in February 2010 and is an MoD initiative, in partnership between Help for Heroes, the MoD and The Royal British Legion alongside other service charities and agencies, with the objective of ensuring that a comprehensive pathway is established to help the wounded, injured and sick launch back into the next phase of their lives. They will benefit from new skills, qualifications and work experience that will guarantee a successful transition either back into the armed services or returning to civilian life.

Part of the Defence Recovery Capability is the creation of 5 regional Personnel Recovery Centres in the major Garrison towns of Tidworth, Catterick, Colchester and Plymouth, with one already up and running in Edinburgh . Tedworth House is in Tidworth.

Day to day life at Tedworth House certainly keeps everyone busy with a range of courses, classes and trips that all work towards ensuring that the transition to the next stage of life is as easy as possible. Courses include topics such as money management, employment and interview techniques and much more.

The Phoenix Centre, which will open in September 2012, will be a state of the art gym and sports complex, which will include a sprung floor for team sports, a skiplex and a swimex, along with weights and a cardio- vascular area equipped with specialist equipment.

Tedworth HouseTedworth House is trialling the ground breaking concept of a Support Hub. As well as the MoD, Army and H4H offices, the Support Hub provides a central location where the specialist delivery agencies, local social services and charities can provide a joint solution to the individual’s needs, each contributing their specialist skills and services. This means that the residents receive everything they need in one place, whether advice on marriage, financial issues, housing or help with prosthetics, it can all be obtained at Tedworth House. The Support Hub also runs regular lifestyle courses for our serving and veteran wounded, injured and sick service personnel, their families and carers. For further course information email: courses@h4h-tedworthhouse.org.uk

Although based in an Army Garrison with Army staff, Tedworth House is very much a tri-service facility – as Help for Heroes is a tri service charity. Army, Navy or RAF and the TA – all will be equally welcome.
