The Employment, Educational & Training Pathway
We understand that not everyone will want to be a Paralympian or participate in sport so equally as important are opportunities in the employment, education and training elements of the sporting sector.
The number of coach, instructor, leader and officiating awards available continues to increase and the take up of different qualifications and awards has resulted in these opporunities, such as the Archery Leader qualification, being available at multiple locations across the UK.
Notable successes in this area include the first rock leader qualification awarded to a bilateral lower-limb amputee, six ocean diver and three dive leader awards, a number of archery leader and Level 1 wheelchair basketball coach awards. In 2012 we trained the first bi-lateral amputee to became a Rock Climbing Leader – this is one of many firsts for a disabled person achieved through the Help for Heroes supported programmes.
The Personal Trainer Course continues to be popular and significant numbers are progression from recreational motorsports events to gaining employment in the motorsports industry with prestigious brands such as Bentley and Land Rover. These two initiatives are examples of Help for Heroes partnerships with the Training Room and Mission Motorsport respectively.
The most novel of the new awards available is a ballooning PPL scholarship, which Help for Heroes manage in partnership with Aerobility, Boeing and the Air League.
