Stu Redmond - INSPIRE
Stu, 36, served with Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. His career was cut short due to injury after he was partially blinded in his right eye. He served in Iraq in 2006, as well as in Kosovo and Kuwait, and was medically discharged in 2010.
A keen cyclist, he used this to deal with his injury and, after taking part on a Help for Heroes pathfinder course, rode in the Centenary and Hero Rides. Since then he has run in his first marathon, completed an Ironman triathlon and is now taking it to the next level with the Arch to Arc Challenge: “I eat, sleep and breathe cycling. It gets you out the house.”
He’s brought this passion to help others on the challenge, fixing their bikes and offering advice and has been keen to stress the importance the sport has played on his journey: “It all falls back to Sports Recovery and the idea of healthy body, healthy mind. Getting out on the bike does you the world of good. It draws your focus away from what you might have had.”
