Dear H4H Supporter,
It is our third birthday on 1st October, three years and £70m raised and allocated to support the blokes wounded in the line of duty. Every penny raised will be used to provide facilities and services to make the lives of some very special men and women better. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful national effort, we could not have done it without you and the thousands of people who have been a part of the team.
Raising so much in such a short time is humbling, we had no idea H4H was going to capture the public’s imagination, and tinged with sadness; sadness that our efforts are focused on supporting young men and women whose lives have changed through their injuries. Any celebrations are tempered with the knowledge that we need to do this and that we cannot rest; so much more is needed.
The Heroes Concert and the Bridge Too Far bike ride were both hugely successful, together raising another £1.5m towards our total. We are now forging ahead with plans to deliver our Recovery Centres across the country and ensure that we have a support network in place that gives the blokes the very best chance of fulfilling futures.
We are also deeply saddened to hear of the accidental death of Jimi Heselden, our greatest benefactor. Jimi has been our supporter since 2008 and has contributed enormously to the success of H4H. He was a remarkable man, a former miner who had the vision to create a system of 'Concertainer' Hesco Bastion blast walls to protect from bombs and bullets. His invention will have saved thousands from injury and then his subsequent donations have gone to help us create facilities and provide services to support the wounded. He supported us in a quietly effective, unassuming way, seeking no recognition save to do his bit for the blokes. All of us at H4H will miss him and I know you will want to share in sending our sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and we will remember him. Well done everyone, a wonderful, inspirational and needed three year effort. Now, lets build on those foundations and put in place a system that will endure.
Thank you all.
Onwards and Upwards,
Bryn
