Dear H4H Supporter,
I hope you all had a great Christmas break and are ready to face the challenges of 2011. It is going to be a big year for H4H and we need every bit of your support and energy to enable us to build on what we have achieved for the wounded to date.
During the year ahead we will see the creation of the first fully comprehensive Recovery Centre at Colchester, we will cut the turf with our partners The Army and The Royal British Legion this February and hope to open the building in November. It will cost around £6.5m to build and will house 30 wounded servicemen as well as be the hub for many more in the area.
In March we will launch our appeal in support of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines project at Plymouth, known as Hasler Company. We are being asked to find £22m to build a 60 ‘cabin’ centre with a sporting rehabilitation complex similar to the one we have already built at Headley Court.
We will shortly be taking over the lease of a wonderful house at Tidworth that will become the flagship of our support to the wounded in the South. It will accommodate 28 of ‘the blokes’ from this June and once fully refurbished in 2012, this will increase to 50 residents plus more as day residents. Tedworth House will become the first of our One Stop Welfare Shops with the key delivery agencies and charities fusing together to provide a fully ‘joined up’ approach to the long term support for the wounded while they are serving and then in the longer term, as they move on to the next phase of their lives. Tedworth will cost £17m to build plus a great deal on an annual basis if we are to provide a first class service.
The plans for the Catterick Recovery Centre are pressing ahead and we should see completion of this centre during 2012. This will be larger than Colchester and again is seen as a hub for the support to the wounded in the North of England. Our Pathfinder centre at Edinburgh continues with Erskine and The Royal British Legion (TRBL) taking over the running of the centre this year while plans are considered for how best to provide the longer-term support in Scotland.
We are working closely with the other Service Charities to ensure that every aspects of an injured Serviceman or woman’s needs are met holistically so our relationships with BLESMA, ABF- The Soldiers’ Charity, SSAFA - Forces Help, RAFA, RNRMC, Skillforce, Erskine, TRBL, Princes Trust and many others continue to grow and flourish.
Our total support to the Defence Recovery Project is a commitment of over £100m, the Royal British Legion has committed £50m over the next ten years and the Armed Forces have committed a similar amount to the support of our blokes; in short, this is a huge project and we can’t do it without you!
So please, get on your bikes, climb those mountains, run those races, bake those cakes and raise as much as you possibly can to help our wounded, we need your help so we can help them.
Thank you for all you are doing and here’s to 2011, let’s make it the best year yet!
Onwards and Upwards!
