Dear H4H Supporter,

With Valentine’s Day on February 14th, Emma and the H4H creative team have produced a wonderful range of merchandise to allow those missing their loved ones to express their feelings. With 10,000 Servicemen and women serving in Afghanistan and many more away in other bases around the world, there are thousands of us thinking of them; so let’s tell them.

Dear H4H Supporter,

A new year is always daunting as we face the challenges of the next twelve months and, with doom and gloom in the news and freezing weather, it is sometimes hard to look forward with eager anticipation. However, there is so much that is good going on that we can feel optimistic and full of determination, regardless of the snow.

September newsletter

Dear H4H Supporter,

I am incredibly proud to be able to announce that H4H has now raised an astonishing £30 million in the 24 months that we have been going. Even more important is the fact that we have been able to spend or allocate over £23.5 m of that to projects that will provide direct and practical support to our wounded.

H4H Newsletter September 2009

September newsletter

Dear H4H Supporter,

On the 17th August Emma and I were delighted to be able to go to Edinburgh and be at the opening of the first Army Recovery Centre. This project, a joint venture between H4H, the Army and Erskine, is the first of its kind and a great step forward for the recovery of our wounded men and women. Named the Mark Wright House after Cpl Mark Wright GC, PARA who died saving his patrol in a minefield near Kajaki in Helmand, it is a house named for a hero, and will help other heroes.

The After Care Service

You’re allowed to be proud.

The fighting in Afghanistan is very much in our minds at the moment. Personally, Emma and I have a number of friends who have been wounded and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. To Alex, Harry and James, as well as all the others, you are the reason we are doing Help for Heroes, we are so proud of you and wish you all a speedy recovery.

The After Care Service

Dear H4H supporter,

Before I go on to bring you up to date with the latest news from Help for Heroes, I would like to talk a little about the latest news from Afghanistan.

We are all deeply saddened every time we hear that another Serviceman or woman has been killed in action; most of us at H4H have military connections and some have close relatives who are serving out there. It was particularly hard however, to hear of the sad death of Lt Col Rupert Thorneloe who died, alongside Tpr Joshua Hammond, this week while in command of 1 Welsh Guards. Col Rupert’s last job had been at the MoD, working for the Secretary of State for Defence, and I remember how delighted Rupert was to be returning to command his beloved Battalion. He was a staunch supporter of H4H and worked hard to help us in every way he could; we will remember him.

The After Care Service

Dear H4H supporter,

It has been a remarkable period even by Help for Heroes standards. As we were cycling through France with 240 riders on the Band of Brothers Bike Ride, Amanda sent me a text to say that we have passed the £22m point, which means we have raised £16m since 1st June 2008! Of that extraordinary total, over £550,000 has come in over just one week and a truly staggering £1,132,097.21 in the last two weeks; we are not fading!

The After Care Service

Dear H4H supporter,

I have some wonderful news; we have raised £20m! That is £20million in just nineteen months since we asked the people of Great Britain to stand up and show their support for our men and women of the Armed Forces and to provide help for those who are wounded. That is magnificent, it is remarkable and you have been part of it. Thank you so much!

The After Care Service

Dear H4H supporter,

Last month we held our first Annual Review, our opportunity to tell everyone how we have performed since we began to fund raise to support the wounded in October 2007. The review was a great success and we have had some terrific feedback from those who attended. Unfortunately for us, we were bumped off the 6 o’clock news by a story about Michael Jackson announcing his UK tour, so I thought you might like to hear some of the highlights. The Annual Report and the Annual Review for 2007/8 are downloadable from our website and make great bedtime reading if you get the chance.
