The Countdown to the 'Final Mission' - The Road to £1million

For the past 5 years the Help for Heroes 4x4 European Rally have retraced the footsteps of the Allied Invasion of Europe during World War II, and visited poignant memorials and ceremonies from World War 1's Western Front. Each rally's route has differed slightly from the one before, however the journey for the 'Rally Family' has remained the same. Stretching along the 2000 mile route are stories of bravery and heroism, stark reminders of the atrocities of war, and key moments to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The 2015 Help for Heroes 4x4 European Rally, 'The Final Mission', will continue this journey. The rally starts from Littlecote House in Berkshire (home to the 101st Airborne Division, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the lead up to D-Day) on Saturday 13th June and they press south towards the coast across Salisbury Plain. During their first two days on mainland Europe the teams will discover the stories of D-Day and Fortress Europe; they will visit the beaches and towns that became so significant as the Allies began their push inland to liberate Europe. Moving North towards Belgium the rally will travel the Western Front. The Somme, a place of such unimaginable devastation in 1916, offers the chance to pay respects at its many cemeteries and memorials, and the day will culminate with attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres. The memorial's large Hall of Memory contains names on stone panels of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who died in the Ypres Salient but who were never identified, and the 'Rally Children' take this moment to lay a wreath to remember all those who fell.

D-Day

As the days tick by and the 4x4s roll onwards, the teams will discover history open up in front of them. From travelling 'Hell's Highway', to visiting Dachau Concentration Camp at Landsberg, and advancing onwards to their 'Final Objective'; The Eagles Nest and Berghof above Berchtesgaden, every member of the rally will travel an emotional path that covers the stories of a by-gone era that shaped the world we live in today. While travelling this path the teams will be raising awareness of Help for Heroes, and will have spent many preceding months fundraising for our wounded, injured and sick Servicemen, women and veterans. The 2015 Rally is the sixth and final rally, and since the inaugural event in 2010 everyone involved has raised an amazing £930,000, and are well on their way to raising a staggering £1million for Help for Heroes.
