Hero Ride North 450: Day 2

Hero Ride North 450: Day 2

Early rise… Early ride…

It was an eager, early start for the North 450 riders today with the prospect of dissecting some of the UK's most beautiful landscape and crossing the Scotland-England border.

But there was a slight catch. They were going to have dig deep over 20 miles first thing to get reach the 1373ft summit of the border ‘undulation’! This really was some of the finest tarmac in the country and with every peddle the riders got one cog turn closer to probably the ultimate view and the highest point above sea level of the entire 450 miles. Of course, Hero Bear was there in fine form to give the riders, quite literally, a heroic high five!

A huge mention and special congratulations have to go to the amazing BoB Jamie Hull and his partner in crime, H4H supporter Johnathan Trafford who have both cycled from John O’Groats (the north eastern tip of Scotland) down to Edinburgh before the North 450 had even started in memory of Lee Rigby. That’s a whopping week of riding every day so far, covering 462 miles with 325 miles still to go to Windsor. Simply awe-inspiring. Naturally, what goes up must come down and after the border water stop the riders were rewarded with a rather enjoyable chunk of gravity to get them on their way to lunch. With very little to see apart from massive open land and some very inquisitive cows, the next 23 mile stint flew by and everyone arrived in Bellingham for some hard earned refuelling.

Curious Cows

32 miles was left for the afternoon stint and staggered with a water (and Jelly Babies) stop in Hexham the riders powered on through to get to our stunning hotel on the outskirts of Consett for the night arriving absolutely exhilarated, but in mighty need of a well earnt rest and maybe a quick dip in the hotel swimming pool which makes a guest appearance today!

An epic journey today, with epic views and epic individuals - good job team North 450, dinner is at 1900.
