Our riders woke up bright and early this morning with a few sore muscles but excited to get going towards Lisieux.
Shortly after setting off the group were cheered on in Evreux by the lovely guys from the H4H 4X4 Rally who have just reached their incredible £1m fundraising target!
A 20 mile stretch saw the riders into lunch where they enjoyed a picnic while listening to two of our Band of Brothers talk about their injuries and thank all the fundraisers for enabling Help for Heroes to support their subsequent Recovery.
Long, winding country roads through beautiful French villages and poppy fields saw new friendships develop as riders talked, laughed and pedalled together.
Band of Brother Ben Wilcox said of the day: “It was quite moving to ride through the poppy fields today – it set the scene and the tone for the day.
“I’m doing the BBBR to give back to Help for Heroes and all the fundraisers; it’s an incredible opportunity for them to get to know us and see how every penny they raise really does help.”
One of these incredible fundraisers is Phil Gowland, who has raised a phenomenal £18,000 for H4H this ride – and a grand total of £34,000 since the end of 2011! He said: “When you’re feeling like your legs are tired, you look around and you know you have nothing to complain about. I did military service and got away with it, but there are a lot of guys who didn’t. That’s why I’m here.”
