BBBR: Day 1

BBBR: Day 1

The Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR), Help for Heroes’ first and longest running fundraiser, kicked off this week  in Chateau Saint-Germain-en-Laye with an amazing day of high spirits, some sheer determination and one rather large ‘undulation’!

A service was led by our very own Pedalling Padre to send our cyclists safely on their way. By the first water break, the sun started to shine and our riders made some good progress as they hit the beautiful country roads outside Paris.

Fundraiser Liz Dutch was riding alongside H4H Band of Brother Claire Edwards and said; ‘it’s been a long day but Claire’s incredible and didn’t stop all day. It’s amazing to be part of the team and a supporter. We take our hats off to those who have served and given so much, and want to help in whatever tiny way we can. It’s a privilege. I did the Ride last year and signed up almost immediately A long, steep hill got our riders breaking a sweat and the satisfaction across the group, from those racing at the front to those pedalling hard to bring up the rear, was clear to see.

A moment of reflection and a historical chat by one of our amazing Battlefield Guides gave the team a renewed sense of purpose as they carried on towards the finish line.

Band of Brother Adam Clark summed up what’s it like to ride alongside the people who have helped fund his recovery: “All these people cycling and fundraising are here for us…it’s overwhelming. Everyone’s done really, really well”
