Bryn's Blog: The battle continues .... Sign up and make a difference

In May last year we were privileged to support a team of thirty five of our Band of Brothers in the Warrior Games in Colorado. Taking on the combined Services of the USA Wounded Warriors, our team returned triumphantly with twenty medals and an appetite for more.

Joining the team on the trip was HRH Prince Harry, who called for a similar games to be held in the UK, an international event between the wounded, injured and sick of many countries, designed to inspire and demonstrate that there is life beyond injury.

Prince Harry Invictus Games at Tedworth House Help for HeroesOne year later, H4H has two hundred potential competitors in training, all hoping to catch the selector's eye and to be able to represent Great Britain against the world. Two weeks ago Prince Harry came down to Tedworth to meet some of the candidates and to share his vision for the international Invictus Games in September. We are delighted to be playing a key part in the event.

Preparation for Prince Harry's Invictus Games is just one, albeit huge, event in the H4H portfolio of Recovery. Recently I caught up with Scott who is rowing for Scotland and last week I was delighted to introduce Michael Sharpe, CEO of Debenhams, our latest corporate supporter and now H4H convert and cyclist, to three members of our top hand cycling team. His lunch was cooked by Band of Brother Ben who is now a chef at Tedworth having completed a catering course through H4H.

I've just been reading about how one of our Alter G anti gravity treadmills is making running a reality for a former soldier. On Friday I visited an inspirational art exhibition with exhibits from some of the 'blokes' and on Saturday I visited our Shooting for Heroes as they learnt about venison, rabbits and game birds and prepared some delicious game dinners.

In each case I met focused young men and women talking excitedly about their plans for the future. It's hugely inspirational and I'm privileged to know these extraordinary people.

I have often written about how your support has enabled these young men and women to once again have dreams and ambitions. The range of what we do and how we support is vast, too big to cover in a blog like this. However, you can be assured that every penny you raise is being put to extraordinarily good use; we are improving lives daily.

We are 'doing good stuff' and we need to be able to keep doing it. We may no longer be in the first exciting phase of frantic fundraising, focused on a single task. Now we are looking to a long future of support and we need to be sustainable in our delivery. I've said before how much I worry about failing or forgetting our young men and women as they become older.  We can't do that; we will not do that.

We have made it easy for you to give regularly, to become a 'Friend' of H4H and ensure that you continue to support every month, relatively painlessly. It may dent your wallet a little but regular support is easier than running up that mountain or spending miles on your saddle (but you don't give that up either). So please, if you like what we do and want us to continue to do it for years to come, sign up and make a difference to the lives of our boys and girls.

Sign up and help make chefs, international athletes, cyclists, runners, rowers, poets and artists from injured soldiers, sailors and airmen. Sign up and help us achieve something really rather wonderful.

The battle continues .... Sign up and make a difference.

Thank you

Onwards and Upwards
