Golden Girls and a Visit to Inspiration Village!

Golden Girls and a Visit to Inspiration Village!

Today we were privileged to be in the stands watching the Alpine Skiing, when history was made; Kelly Gallagher and her guide Charlotte Evans secured GBs first ever gold medal won on snow!

It was such an incredible morning and so inspiring for our guys out here on the BPA's Paralympic Inspiration Programme – for them to see how hard work and dedication can pay off was a real boost to their determination to achieve their own dreams and compete in a future Paralympic games. One of our Athletes, Lee Aitchison, later tweeted about the moment, saying: “Feel so privileged to be in #sochi2014 and witness the history of #teamGB winning their first gold in a winter Paralympics #greatestfeelingever

On the way back to the hotels, we were due to visit the Mountain Athletes Village for a behind the scenes tour. Well, before we got there we had a bit of an extended detour as we got off the gondola too early and there was no disabled access, we ended up doing nearly 360 around the gondola cable to get back to where we needed to be.

The afternoon in the Athlete’s Village with some of the ParalympicsGB team was amazing and another massive dose of inspiration for our aspiring athletes! They had the opportunity to see how they would potentially live if they were to be selected for future games, they also had an opportunity to hold the Paralympic Flame and Jade Etherington's Silver Medal – a massive ‘wow’ moment for so many of our guys and one experience that is sure to live on in their memories for years to come.

This evening we attended the medal ceremony, which was a particularly proud moment for everyone, especially the members of ParalympicsGB. To see two GB flags being raised and the national anthem being proudly sung for the first time in Winter Paralympic history was a wonderful moment; I’m fairly sure that pretty much everyone had goosebumps. It was a very moving and emotional moment for everyone watching.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to the sport PIP athletes, who fly back to the UK; we will miss them as we’ve all gelled and had such a wonderful time together. However, with another action packed day for ParalympicsGB, we’ll certainly be looking forward to cheering on the amazing Mick as well as Jade & Caroline and Kelly & Charlotte; we’re rooting for you all!

Until tomorrow,

Jess
