Today marks the three year anniversary of the first resident to Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Tedworth House. One of four Recovery Centres across the UK, Tedworth House in Wiltshire aims to inspire the wounded, injured and sick and returning veterans to lead active, independent and fulfilling lives, which will enable them to reach their full potential and to support them and their families for life.
It is a place of opportunities providing education, training, sport and adventure in a relaxed, understanding and caring environment with state of the art facilities and dedicated staff that aid the road to recovery.
One former resident says; “Tedworth House is somewhere that offers a peaceful environment with areas to escape. There are areas to simply sit and listen to nature but also somewhere that you can engage with others who are injured and undertake different activities. My first impression when I saw the house was obviously "Wow, nice pad!" but it is when you enter and see around the house that it really comes home as to what it is there for. The staff helped me so much as I could speak to someone, they took some of my battles from me which lightened my load and gave me time to concentrate on other things.”
Since welcoming the first resident through the doors the Recovery Centre has developed and diversified the support it can offer our wounded, injured and sick preparing them as best it possibly can for the civilian world and the challenges that a life changing injury may pose into the future.
In addition to offering an adapted gym, swimex, skiplex and a whole host of other sporting activities, Tedworth House Recovery Centre is also home to an art therapy room, vegetable gardens, putting green, training facilities and IT suite, holistic wellbeing centre, childrens’ play area, training kitchens and woodwork room.
Centre Manager Giles Woodhouse comments; “The opportunity and support that Tedworth House has been able to offer Help for Heroes beneficiaries over the past three years has been phenomenal. We have seen a huge number of success stories from our ‘blokes’ and their families and the team here at Tedworth are ready to support the many more who may need us in the future.”
