We are honoured and delighted to hear that Jenson Button has chosen to help our wounded once again through his annual triathlon. The Jenson Button Trust Triathlon will allow 500 triathletes to race against the Formula 1 driver and party with him afterwards. This year’s event will once again be in support of Help for Heroes and takes place on 14 July at the Luton Hoo estate in Bedfordshire.
Jenson said: “I am very excited to announce the date of this year’s event will be 14 July. Entry is now open, but we only have 500 spots available. If we can get all 500 people raising a minimum of £250 then the event will raise over £100,000, which would be a great achievement for such a worthwhile cause. So make sure you register and guarantee your place!”
The event was devised by the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver, a keen triathlete, as part of his training and to raise money for good causes. Last year’s inaugural event raised over £27,000 for Help for Heroes.
Competitors will each take part in a 300m lake swim, 9km bike and 2.5km run all within the grounds of the beautiful Luton Hoo estate. The top 50 from each wave will then go into a final consisting of 750m swim, 19km bike and 5km run.
The remaining participants from each wave will go into a repechage – a ‘wooden spoon’ raceoff final meaning that everyone has the chance to race twice. The distances are short but the format is challenging, making the event suitable for first-time and experienced triathletes.
There will be a post-race party with prizes presented by Jenson, music and a barbeque. Participants will be encouraged to fundraise for H4H, with special fundraising prizes being awarded for top fundraisers. The entry fee will be £120 and, in addition to any funds raised by participants, profits from the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon will be donated to H4H via The Jenson Button Trust. Now in its fourth year, The Jenson Button Trust has raised vast sums of money for a number of charities close to Jenson’s heart.
Bryn Parry, said: “Jenson’s support is invaluable, both in raising awareness and fundraising for our wounded. We at H4H would like to say a huge thank you to Jenson for joining us in the battle to provide the very best support for our heroes, for life.”
