UK Wounded Heroes to compete in US Paralympic Warrior Games

With just under one month to go, we are delighted to announce a team of UK wounded heroes will once again compete as special guests in the 2013 Warrior Games, in a trip funded by H4H and visited by Prince Harry!

The Warrior Games is a competitive Paralympic sporting event for wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans, hosted by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and presented by our corporate partners - Deloitte.

This will be the second year that H4H has organised and funded this international sporting opportunity for UK wounded. The squad of 35 UK athletes will be taking part in friendly competitions against U.S. Service members and veterans at the event which will run from May 11 - 16 2013 in Colorado Springs, USA.

The 2013 Games will see approximately 260 US wounded and injured Servicemen and women and veterans competing in seven sports, including; archery, cycling, shooting, swimming, track & field, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball.

Martin Colclough, Head of Physical Recovery, Help for Heroes said: “We are delighted to once again fund a UK team in such a high profile U.S. event. Having supported athletes at both a grass-roots and Paralympic level, we know how important physical activity is for encouraging confidence and independence after a life-changing injury or illness. “We are excited to welcome our friends from overseas, the British Armed Forces, back for a second year of Warrior Games competition,” said Charlie Huebner, chief of Paralympics, USOC. “Our relationship with Help for Heroes that started with the sharing of best practices has grown into a true partnership that has led to the creation of more sport programs and support for our service members and veterans with physical disabilities.”
