MS Dhoni to join all-star cricket line up at the Kia Oval for Cricket for Heroes

Tuesday 1 September 2015

On Thursday, September 17, one of the most popular Indian cricketers of all time, MS Dhoni, will join other world-class stars at the Kia Oval for the inaugural international Help for Heroes fundraiser, Cricket for Heroes.

An inspirational captain and Indian sporting icon, Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever wicket-keeper batsman to have graced the game.

Since making his international debut in 2004 there have been no shortage of accolades for Dhoni. He led India to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007 before taking them to the top of the World Test rankings for 18 months from December 2009.

Most famously, however, Dhoni steered his country to victory in the 2011 World Cup final scoring 91 not-out in front of his adoring home fans in Mumbai, India.

Looking ahead to Cricket for Heroes, Dhoni said: “I am delighted to be joining so many cricketing superstars at the Kia Oval on Thursday September 17 and supporting such a worthy cause.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket in England and I would urge all sports fans to support Help for Heroes on September 17 and watch some truly world class performers in action.”

Dhoni will join fellow Indian star Virender Sehwag, Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi and South African ace Herschelle Gibbs in the Help for Heroes XI captained by England Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss and managed by the legendary Sir Ian Botham.

They will take on a Rest of the World XI containing Brendon McCullum, Matthew Hayden, Mahela Jayawardene and Graeme Smith as well as players such as Kiwis Scott Styris and Daniel Vettori. The team will be coached by Gary Kirsten and managed by the great Indian Sunil Gavaskar.
