'Hiking for Heroes - The Memorial Miles'

I will start by introducing myself, if I may. My name is Lance corporal Patrick Hards. I joined the Armed Forces in August 2001 and have served in the 2nd Battalion The Green Jackets which later become the 4th Battalion, The Rifles. I have served in Northern Ireland on Memorial WalkOp Banner, Iraq on Op Telic 10 and Afghanistan, so I know first hand what our service personnel go through in order to keep our country safe.

I will be organising a walk named ‘Hiking for Heroes – The Memorial Miles’ in aid of the charity Help for Heroes. This will see me and Daniel walk a mile for each service member we have lost in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan! The route will take us through the garrison towns of units that have been most affected by these conflicts. We will finish the walk in 14 days or less and our finish line is the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London where we will lay a wreath in remembrance to our fallen heroes. If any other service person should fall between now and the finishing line, they will also be remembered as part of this walk.

Our aim is to raise in excess of £20,000 for the Help for Heroes charity, which helps to provide the help our injured servicemen and women so desperately need.
