Help for Heroes are proud to announce the latest edition to our great patrons; Sir Ian Botham, former England cricket captain. "These days the word HERO is used far too often! Over the years I have been inspired by many people, from the incredible young boys and girls with Leukaemia to our brave Servicemen and women, all of them REAL Heroes. H4H Middlesex County Co-ordinator, Steve Pickston, certainly had a busy weekend on 5th-6th December. He organised the first Help for Heroes shop that opened for the weekend in Uxbridge. He emailed telling us how it all went - ‘Well, it was an amazing weekend! Setting up the shop on the Friday, the amount of people stopping to ask when we were open and what we were planning to sell, we had a feeling it was going to be busy. Local businesses helped out with refreshments for the volunteers and local pubs selling wristbands. The local florist made a display which Im sure you will agree is amazing. Hillingdon council have raised over £15,000 for Help for Heroes this year so she was happy to come along and open the shop for us. After the formalities I introduced the Mayor to the volunteers, many of them serving members of the armed forces including some RAF Firefighters and RLC bomb disposal personnel. I looked around and there were 6 people, arms full of merchandise waiting to be served! This continued over the next few hours and by lunchtime, I was worried we would have no stock left to open on Sunday! The Military guys were on the high street collecting and pointing people in the direction of the shop and they did a fine The shop proved to be such a success that Steve has agreed to open for one more day! This coming Saturday, 12th December, it will be open from 9am until 6pm. Well done Steve and good luck for Saturday! |

job. We did start to run out of some key items and people asked if we would be open again as they would gladly come back, so we decided to have one more day to fulfil the need. I have to say the two days where fantastic, people who didnt have much money just coming in to show support, kids giving up their pocket money, donations coming in thick and fast both to the guys in the street and also to the shop. When times are hard financially, it just goes to show the support for the Help for Heroes and the Armed Forces is massive and I'd like to personally thank everyone who came in and supported in one way or another’
