£6m - you have hit the target
The Sun - Tom Newton Dunn

SUN readers’ support has seen the Help For Heroes campaign reach £6million – and now it’s targeting £10million.

Already there is enough money to build a badly-needed swimming pool and gym for Britain’s wounded troops.

But more cash is wanted to make life even better for our war heroes.

The appeal surged past the original target after limbless veterans and other fundraisers arrived in London on Sunday night at the end of a 360-mile bike ride that raised a whopping £1.2million.

The awesome total has been raised in eight months, and is a record for a start-up British charity. But the Help For Heroes is about more than cash.

Last summer, troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan marched through empty streets. Now they are greeted by huge crowds, and offered gifts wherever they go in their home towns.

Army chief General Sir Richard Dannatt last night saluted everyone who has backed the campaign.

CLEETHORPES' TROOPER'S SUPER HERO WISH TO BE FULFILLED
This is Grimsby - Online Reporter

Friends of Cleethorpes trooper Robert Pearson will stage a fun event in his memory.

As reported, the 22-year-old was killed driving a Viking Warrior personnel carrier, which is believed to have been struck by a landmine close to Camp Bastion, in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Hundreds of wellwishers lined the streets to pay tribute to the hero on the day of his funeral, following a Grimsby Telegraph campaign to honour him.

The Queen's Royal Lancer had spoken to his friend Stephanie Smith just three days before his death on April 21 - and she is now determined to raise cash for other servicemen and women in his memory.

Stephanie (22) of Westlands Avenue, Tetney, said: "When we last spoke he said he wanted to organise a Super Heroes night out and we could all dress up, so we are going to incorporate that into the memorial day."
