Our Boards of Trustees are responsible for the overall control and strategic direction of the Charities.
They meet regularly during the year to consider, determine and review our strategies and policies, and to receive reports from senior management. Our Trustees bring to the Charities a depth and breadth of expertise with extensive backgrounds in the military, in the legal, finance and medicine professions, communications and professional services.
His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett, Judge Advocate General. Joined the Royal Navy from school in 1973 and served for 31 years before retiring as a Commodore in 2004. He graduated in law from University College London in 1976, was selected to read for the bar in 1982 and completed a Master of Studies in Legal Research at St Anthony’s College Oxford in 2000. He mixed general duties and “legal” appointments throughout his career.
Later appointments in the Royal Navy included the Commander of HMS COLLINGWOOD, the Director of Navy Pay and Pensions and the Chief Naval Judge Advocate and Director of Naval Legal Services. He also undertook part time judicial appointments while serving in the Royal Navy of Naval Judge Advocate, Acting Metropolitan Stipendiary Magistrate and Recorder.
He was appointed as a Circuit Judge on the South Eastern Circuit and Judge Advocate General of the Armed Forces on 1 November 2004. He became a Senior Circuit Judge in 2005 and was elected Bencher of Gray's Inn in July 2008. He was appointed Special Professor of law at Nottingham University in 2010, and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2013. He has a passion for sport, having played rugby and cricket for the Royal Navy, and he has been a member of the RFU Council since 2000. His wife, Sally, of 33 years is an ex WRNS officer, his son is a warfare officer in the Royal Navy currently serving in HMS DARING and his daughter is an event manager.
