Ow my aching head, this is one tired Hero this morning. I can bearly hit the keyboard to write this blog.. It must have been that last bottle of beer that Mark said I should down in one..ouch!
What a day, the team went up to HQ, (that’s Twickenham, you ignoramuses) to watch the match of the century. I was joined by 52,250 or so of my closest mates, including The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, to watch the Help for Heroes team battle it out with The International Select. |
|
We had a very smart lunch in the Royal Box and met the sponsors including Lord Ashcroft, Investec and Nintendo and various other Very Important Big Bears before taking our seats. It was very moving to see the H4H flag being carried across the pitch but at least I didn’t cry like Dellaglio during the National Anthem.. Big softie!

At half time I met the Royals and had a bit of a chat... I had to remember to do my head nod bow which didn’t go terribly well and I think the security men thought I was going to attack the Prince but all was well when they realised I am just an old teddy bear when it comes to meeting Royalty.

As you might know, I am descended from a fearsome line of warrior bears, the North Wales Grizzlies, so my loyalty was really to Scott Gibb’s team and I was a little sad to see them come a very honourable second but then again it’s just a game... Hey ho.

| The match itself was really exciting and we all cheered when Dallaglio kicked the final conversion and led his team, The Help for Heroes XV to a stunning 29 – 10 victory. All the spectators really enjoyed themselves and the Prince of Bears... Ooops that should be Prince of Wales of course Sir ... Even joined in on the Mexican wave. |
|
| The trophy was a specially commissioned sculpture of the H4H stretcher bearers... yes, that really is stretcher BEARERS and it was superb. It will live at Headley Court until it comes out of hibernation, perhaps next year... Paws crossed. |

| After prize giving and some tea, the players suggested that I join them for a night on the town. As I am a country bear it was a new experience for me to go to a night club and the bouncer was unsure at first if I should be allowed in but when a few giant rugby players said they would vouch for me it seemed to work. |
It was very loud, very dark and rather hot but after a while I loosened up and relaxed with Jeff, Simon and Jolyon who had helped me run the match. I spent some time talking to Mark Ormorod and Becky his girlfriend and Joe who I met at Headley Court the other day. It wasn’t long before I was very relaxed indeed and showing off one or two of my dance moves. I was just getting into the whole nightclub scene when Bryn started muttering that it was time for this old bear to hit the sack... Pah... He is such a lightweight!
Come on Heroes! Well done everyone... Another £1.2 million!
