June has been relatively quiet event-wise but with a lot of work taking place in the background for events coming up over the next few months including, of course, the Black Tie Ball on Saturday 17 September in Birmingham. Tickets are shifting fast so don’t hang around if you want to swing your pants on the flashy jazzy dancefloor at Malmaison Birmingham.
We held one get-together in Hereford, with a small group having a really interesting and moving tour of the National Memorial Arboretum, and one of our very talented BoBs Clive Smith, who helped to develop the new Extreme fragrance, spent an afternoon with Alan at The Perfume Shop in The Bullring making like Del and Rodney knocking out stuff from a suitcase! We actually did okay but agreed retail wasn’t our destiny as a career choice… Hats off to all retail workers, you have the patience of saints.
The major event of the month will have been The Three Peaks Challenge with four of our BoBs supporting Hunters Hill Special Needs College in attempting to climb 10,000 feet, walk 26 miles and, in between the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowden, travel 460 miles – all in 24hours! I write this just before we depart and the weather report looks wet, with more wet to come so a huge thank you to those guys who stepped forward to help the amazing kids who have faced difficulties in their life, and have benefitted from the resilience and determination shown by all the BoBs who have trained and completed the event with them – it’s quite literally life-changing.
Looking forward to July and beyond...
We will have 65 BoB and BoS members at Cadbury World along with Hero Bear, a get-together in Nottingham on Monday 11 July (location TBC) and the Mighty BoB FC is taking part in a disability tournament with the team wearing their brand new and very sexy new strip. Forget the Euros and England, these guys are the business! And, a very early date for your diary – the Christmas party is to take place on Friday 9 December at Hednesford Football Club - jingle bells ahoy!
If you want to get involved in your region, please contact me as I would love to meet you and talk about any ideas that you may have.
