We were lucky enough to have a wonderful visit from a handful of Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Hospital Chelsea. They spent two days at the Colchester Recovery Centre, getting a feel of the centre and chatting to the guys and girls who were on the Core Recovery Events Course and understating some of the difficulties transition out of the forces can be with an injury and/or illness. They were delighted to be invited to the Recovery Centre and were even treated to a home cooked Gurkha curry by one the members of the team!
30 BoB & BoS were very generously donated tickets to the Southend on Sea Festival which was held over the first weekend in July. Members were treated to performances from Peter Andre, Odyssey and the British Philharmonic Orchestra. Ten Band of Brothers were also very lucky to have been donated a 20 minute flight each in a Tiger Moth plane! Unfortunately on the day the weather didn’t allow for the Tiger Moth to be used so they had their 20 minute flight in a Boeing-Stearman instead. Some very grateful and happy BoBs indeed! I think the quote from Band of Brother Lee Patmore sums up the day: "Days like today give us a break, an opportunity to do something we are likely not to experience if it wasn't for Help for Heroes and the generosity of those that donate these experiences. For me, it's really helped with the rut I'm in & I’m just so grateful for the experience."
We also held a Summer Bear-B-Q at Chavasse VC House on Tuesday 18 July raising a mega £320 from a raffle and some games. This will go straight into the pot to help carry on the amazing work that Help for Heroes already achieves on a daily basis. Thank you to all BoB & BoS who attended the BBQ and for your continued support.
And finally we ended the month on a fossil hunting trip down to Walton on the Naze in Essex. Unfortunately not all families turned up but this meant more fossils for those who did and it wasn’t just the children who enjoyed themselves! A lovely thank you quote from a very chuffed Band of Brother “Thank you for organising the fossil hunting today really enjoyed myself with the family. I could have stayed hunting all day but the tide came in.”
