This March, Diana from last year’s Great British Bake Off (GBBO) visited Catterick Recovery Centre to give BoB and BoS members a masterclass in baking. Showing the group how to bake her Easter Mocha Cake Diana then judged the cakes under the categories of Most Creative, Best Taste, Best Presented, best Texture and Champion Cake Baker (CCB).
Overwhelmed by her success, Anna Pollock who was the winner of the CCB category, who has two young children and whose husband Scott is an army staff sergeant, said she was definitely going to do more baking from now on. “I used to bake a lot before my illness because I was a fitness fanatic and could burn it off but when I stopped training, I stopped eating cake! Now, thanks to the support of Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Catterick, I am back doing exercise again, training for Hero Ride and Arch to Arc.
“The Bake Off has been brilliant. I was so shocked to win because everyone’s cakes were fantastic. I’m just dead happy!”
