Plymouth BoB members were invited to take part in cookery classes given by the students at City College Plymouth, learning how to make tasty delights such as Bolognese, butternut squash soup and homemade stuffing.
BoB member Tony Wills said, “It’s good to learn simple cookery skills and to be talked through it, so you don’t forget.”
As well as the cooking, there was also a lot of tasting happening and everyone had leftovers (although not that much!) to take home for dinner! Hero Bear is particularly fond of Butternut Squash Soup, especially as it is so easy to make…
1 large butternut squash, cubed
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, crushed
7 cups water
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup pouring cream
Put all the ingredients except for the cream in a large pot. Bring to a boil on the hob, then cover and simmer for 35 minutes. Using a hand-held blender purée the soup until silky smooth. Stir in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer for 1-2 mins. Pour into bowls and enjoy!
