Woodworking at Bolton Castle

Woodworking at Bolton Castle

For Armed Forces Day, visitors to Bolton Castle were able to watch woodworkers from Phoenix House Centre demonstrate their skills. Help for Heroes volunteer, Chris Morgan, along with two Band of Brother members demonstrated basic greenwood working processes using a pole lathe to produce a set of stool/chair legs. Chris runs the Wood Workshop at Phoenix House, as part of a recovery programme for Band of Brothers.

As well as manning the display of wooden items made by them and other beneficiaries and doing some demonstrations, the guys were also selling some of their handy work explaining to members of the public how vital learning the skill has been in their recovery.

North Woodworking

The following day Chris was joined by fellow Help for Heroes volunteer Chris Helliwell who used a traditional bowl turner which turns log pieces into wooden bowls, and encouraged visitors to try their hand at the craft.

If you fancy having a go at woodworking by sure to watch out for emails about upcoming woodworking classes.
