At the end of June, Band of Brother members at Tedworth House were treated to a visit from British Formula One star Lewis Hamilton. Lewis, who has just been announced as the first Ambassador for next year’s Invictus Games, had a tour of the Recovery Centre followed by a go on the ski-plex and then a game of Wheelchair Basketball in the Phoenix Centre.
Alongside 14 Band of Brother members, Lewis showed that he wasn’t afraid to have a go, by playing a full game, and demonstrating some impressive wheelchair handling skills! It seems as though it isn’t just cars that Lewis knows how to drive!
After the game, Lewis had lunch with some of the BoBs and chatted about everything from sports and racing to injuries and hat-hair!
BoB member AJ Pingram said: ‘He seemed genuinely interested in how we’re using sport as part of our recovery process and he definitely gave us a run for our money during the wheelchair basketball match.’
