In late July, 18 Band of Brother members were invited to attend an evening at Floris, the oldest English retailer of fragrance and toiletries in the country. Having started in 1730, Floris is still family owned and run today by the 8th and 9th generation of the family.
The group started off with a champagne and nibbles reception in the shop, which is the same shop that opened in in 1730 by Menerco born Juan Famenias Floris and where the perfumes were originally made. As you can imagine, it is steeped in family history including the original order books of past and present Kings and Queens! Everyone enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere while indulging in the free refreshments. They had the chance to talk to Edward Bodenham who is a descendant of the Floris family and the current Director of the business.
A two hour “smelling experience” followed, with one of their head perfumers. BoBs were asked to write down if they liked the fragrances and at the end, and were offered a free 50ml bottle of their favourite fragrance – with the help of a member of the Floris team.
It was an incredible night! One BoB member who attended said: “I loved the experience because it’s not every day I get that kind of opportunity to interact in that side of life. I'm fascinated about history and knowing out great British past and future.”
