Children’s charity CHICKS, who Help for Heroes have provided with grants of over £26,000, took 32 children of Band of Brother and Band of Sister members on a residential break to Cornwall this July.
Everyone had a brilliant time – both groups went horse riding and to the circus, one group went swimming and climbing, and the others went to the beach. There were camp fires and playtime as well as a karaoke birthday party to celebrate the birthdays of two children in the group.
Everyone had a brilliant time and really got a lot out of spending time with other kids in the same situation.
Andy Hopkins, the Senior Respite Break Leader for CHICKS said; “A week away gives the children the chance to leave all their worries behind them. We’ve seen the children go on their own personal journeys, gaining confidence, knowing they can be themselves somewhere else and making new friends.”
One of the children who attended said; “If you help each other out you make happiness. I can do a lot more than I thought I was capable of. I’d love to carry on with horse riding at home. I used to do it but I fell off and got scared. Now I’m not. You get to meet new people that have been through what you’ve been through.”
