Stockton Shoot (Barney Stratton & Mike Barnard)

We wanted to recognise the efforts of Stockton Shoot for helping to make the Shooting for Heroes programme such a success.  In particular, we owe Barney Stratton and Mike Barnard a huge debt of gratitude; without their help, the programme would never have got off the ground.

Together with Help for Heroes and the Shooting Gazette magazine, Barney established the idea of Game Shooting as a Recovery activity, hosting the first day on his Wiltshire Shoot at Stockton for twenty members of the Band of Brothers.  From the first exposure, he grew the aspiration to deliver a comprehensive 12-month programme, culminating in a challenging driven shoot.  Mike Barnard has also been there from the very start and has acted as guide, mentor, educator, joker, transporter, encourager, organiser and far more to the Programme.  Between them they have offered Gamekeeping and work experience opportunities for some of those on the course, and also linked keen Shooting for Heroes members to established shooters as mentors, loaders and guides.
