Blood, Sweat and Gears

For Incredible Support and Fundraising

The team Blood Sweat and Gears grew out of the long term support of Mark Stephenson of PWS. The target was to raise £250,000 with a cycling challenge across the Western Cape of South Africa; 345miles and 19,200ft of climbs from Franschhoek to Knysna.

The 24 strong team was made up supporters, 4 beneficiaries and 2 support staff from Phoenix House Recovery centre. The route was chosen to challenge the capabilities of able bodied and injured participants alike and required months of focused training which was brutal in the wet and windy North!

This was an amazing achievement to plan, manage and complete such a huge challenge.

5 months later the total sits at over £314,000 and the funds will be used to fund three Psychological Wellbeing Advisors posts at Phoenix House for the next three years, this more than doubles the current capacity. Direct, practical support at its best!
