GREAT ESCAPE II.

After our ride Round the Outside the coast line of Great Britain, I wanted to do something on motorbikes again, so here we go. The intention is to ride from the former RAF Biggin Hill, Kent via France , Belgium, Holland, Germany to visit the site of the Great Escape at Stalag Luft III at Sagen in Poland. Then return via Southern Germany into Switzerland, France and back home. We will be paying homage to the men who attempted to break out of the prisoner war camp and in particular Sq Leader Roger Bushell, played by Sir Richard Attenborough in the 1963 film THE GREAT ESCAPE. We will also do the ride on Triumph motorcycles, similar to that ridden by Steve Mcqueen and visit the site, where the famous jump was filmed. I hope to have 5 riders with support, we will be visiting historical sites en route and pay our respects at dedicated sites. I know it appears a long way off but we have a lot of planning to do, we hope to raise a considerable amount for the charity and look forward to planning and meeting people from all over Europe during our travels.

Planned Event: The event includes a 50 mile expedition of which a few friends from a local cadet squadron will participate in, in around august 2010 the event will take place around the countryside of Kent and all participants will be expected to train for the event on the planned dates given to them along with other vital safety and event information. This event was carried out throughout the year 2009 for a different charity by just 3 individuals who raised £537 between the 3 of them. Planned Event: Valencia Ramshackle Rally 2010. Ramshackle Valencia is the epitome of absurdity. The willing participants must place their trust in a few quid's worth of scrap metal and set off on an epic banger rally covering 1450 miles. The rally lasts for four days as teams compete in the daily challenges to score points and simply put the team with the most points at the end of it all is the winner. Planned Event: Earlier this year we ran the inaugural Hever Castle Triathlon. The triathlon was held in and around the castle grounds. We ran two races 1) 400m swim/20km cycle/4km run 2) 800m swim/40km cycle/8km run. The event was a huge success as we had 1000 places and sold out within 3 weeks. Due to demand we had to increase numbers to 1300 with 200 on a waiting list.
