The Norfolk Dog Day takes place on 9th August 2009 at Sennowe Park. The Temple-Richards family have very kindly agreed to open their wonderful park for this event and have very kindly opened up their gardens for a V.I.P drinks party during the course of the day.
The Norfolk Help for Heroes Dog Day will coincide with the deployment of the Light Dragoons from Swanton Morley to active service in Afghanistan. Many of the wives and partners left behind during their deployment will be participating and helping in the organisation of this event. Clearly so pertinent to their position.
The day itself will follow a format that has been rolled out on many occasions in different parts of the country. The gates will open at 10.30am with the first class starting at 12.30pm with the intention of having the grand finale at 5pm.
During the course of the afternoon there will be displays from the Norwich Prison Service Drugs Dog Team, Guide Dogs for the Blind as well as there being a continuous ring dedicated to an agility competition which will be run by a local Agility Club.
A gun dog scurry will take place which will incorporate the beautiful lake set below Sennowe Hall and there will be a range of related stands offering their wares as well as demonstrations.
There will be ample FREE car parking and access is good, both in and out of the park.
There will be a "food court" catering for all tastes – much locally produced. Members of the public who wish to attend will be able to bring picnics and eat them in the car park or around the main ring.
Each class will be sponsored by a local business and we are actively seeking sponsorship for each class. In addition we are seeking a lead sponsor for the event as a whole. Sponsorship will be critical to ensure that the maximum sum can be raised for this most worthwhile charity.
The event is being organised by a "canine committee" comprising those scheduled below. In addition there is the "bitch pack" which the committee are extremely grateful to for volunteering to help in various aspects of the day's organisation. Without this team the event would not be possible.
In addition, we will be drawing on members of all three services from within Norfolk, the local cadet forces and many other organisations to assist in ensuring that this day is a great success.
We are extremely privileged to have a number of high profile individuals both locally and nationally supporting the Norfolk Help for Heroes Dog Day including Kate Adie. Kate is the very well known BBC reporter and writer who has spent many days amongst British troops on active service and reporting on behalf of the BBC from many troubled hot spots.
Ultimately we are most fortunate to be able to have as our Patron a black Labrador, Phylis, belonging to General Sir Richard and Lady Dannatt. General Dannatt has been a high profile and extremely tenacious commander of the British Army over the last five years. He and his wife, Pippa, have a home in Norfolk and the 9th August is almost to the day, the 40th anniversary of General Sir Richard Dannatt's term in the British Army
.
We are extremely grateful to Sir Richard and Lady Dannatt for the support they have given to this event and we very much look forward to welcoming them to Sennowe Park on the 9th August.
