Escala visit Tedworth House Recovery Centre

Wounded, injured and sick heroes were treated to a performance by Escala at Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Tedworth House this week.

The electrical string quartet visited the Wiltshire-based Recovery Centre to better understand what Help for Heroes delivers to wounded servicemen and women ahead of the Cricket for Heroes event on September 17. Escala will perform at the Kia Oval for the inaugural international Help for Heroes Twenty20 cricket fundraiser, supported by Old Mutual Wealth.

The girls – Helen, Stephanie, Victoria and Honor – visited the Tin Hut and met the Help for Heroes volunteers before making their way onto Tedworth House where they had a tour and saw the facilities including the state-of-the-art gym, skiplex, woodland camp and art room.

Afterwards, they spent time with two Cricket for Heroes players, Ellie Day and Tracy Hills, to learn more about how Help for Heroes has changed their life and the importance of Cricket to their recovery.

Residents and staff then gathered in the Presentation Room for a special performance by Escala, where they played instrumental versions of Live and Let Die and Palladio.

Escala commented: “After seeing Help for Heroes Recovery Centre Tedworth House and meeting some wounded servicemen and women, we have been inspired by their strength and positive attitude in overcoming adversity.

“The visit was truly inspirational and we were overwhelmed by what we saw. It is reassuring to know that our wounded heroes are getting the first class support they deserve.

“We are extremely proud and more humbled than ever to have the opportunity to play a part in the Cricket for Heroes event next month and to be able to show our support to those who sacrificed so much is a privilege.”

Ellie added: “It was a pleasure and privilege to meet Escala and to hear them perform. The entire Help for Heroes cricket team really appreciates their support, not just for the Cricket for Heroes event next month, but for the charity as a whole. It is great to hear they were so overwhelmed and impressed with what they saw at Tedworth House and we look forward to seeing them again at the Oval!”
