Stuart’s DOUBLE ironman challenge
Imagine being asked to do a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile cycle, finished off with a nice, relaxing marathon. Most of us would say we couldn’t manage it and perhaps feel faint at the thought.

Stuart's Double Ironman ChallengeLincolnshire Co-operative’s Market Rasen Butchery Manager Stuart Parker isn’t just undertaking that feat. He’s doing twice that amount. A 4.8 mile swim, a 224 mile cycle and a 52.4 mile run. It’s the equivalent of swimming, cycling and running from Market Rasen to Edinburgh.

He’ll be taking part in the Double Ironman Challenge in Lichfield on August 6th and 7th and has started fundraising for the Society’s Charity of the Year, Help for Heroes.

Stuart said: “I started running when I was 23 and have taken part in marathons and ultra marathons for the past 25 years. I decided that the year I turned 50 I needed another personal challenge so I decided to enter an Ironman Triathlon. I’ve now completed three of these events so I thought this would be a new challenge for a great charity.”

Training has started and at the moment, involves swimming twice a week and biking and running three times a week.  Stuart’s going to be part of the Co-op’s Lincoln 10k team and plans to cycle 50 miles before the event as extra training!

Ceremony for remembrance
Ceremony for RemembranceColleagues at Lincolnshire Co-operative’s Louth Funeral Home organised a memorial service in the run up to Christmas which also raised funds for the Society’s Charity of the Year.

Colleagues invited clients they had served during the year to St James’ Church in the town and 200 people attended.
During the ceremony, the names of people who had passed away were read out. The guests also had a chance to light a candle and place a message of remembrance on the church Christmas tree.  Donations were collected for Help for Heroes and the service raised more the £350.
