The Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2011 - NOW FULL
I am delighted to announce that the registration is now open for the Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) 2011. We will be landing in Normandy early on D Day, 6th June and riding through the beautiful undulating countryside of Normandy and Northern France to our finish in Paris.
Each day we remember the actions of those who fought with briefings from top Battlefield Guides and dignified but very emotional ceremonies at the battlefields. We are accompanied and joined by veterans who tell their stories to help connect us to the young men and women they were in 1944. Each day we ride around 80 miles which, although challenging, is achievable with the proper training and as we say, “its not a race”. We are spurred on by riding alongside modern veterans of a different war in Afghanistan, a different war but with some very similar stories and the same humour and modesty. Some of the blokes have lost limbs and as they crank the gears of their handbikes we are reminded of the reason we are doing this ride; for these blokes.
Our bike rides are our signature events and you will never forget your BBBR. You need to be determined to succeed both in the ride and to raise as much money as you possibly can; in many ways that is as big a challenge. The minimum donation target is just that, a minimum and we will hope you go on to beat our top fundraisers who have passed the £70k point on a single ride! Be inventive, don’t rely on a letter to your friends, but lay on your own fund raising event and help spread the word even further. It can be done, it just needs some imagination, grit and determination to help the blokes... You know you can do it!
Have a look at the previous years' videos and photos, catch the bug, then call up a friend and get them to join. It’s so much more fun to train and ride with friends but even if you don’t, it wont be long before you make new friends on the ride. So, if you think you are up for it, come and join our 300 and do something extraordinary... I’ll see you there!
Good luck and ride safely,
Bryn

A Note of Thanks
The International Guild of Battlefield Guides has been an integral part of H4H's Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) since its inception in 2008. They have been responsible for ensuring that our Battlefield visits en route are both informative and poignant, guaranteeing that we are aware of the reason we are doing this ride – to remember the fallen and help our wounded.
We are fortunate that Jeremy Archer, The Guild and Rosie Trousdell have all worked tirelessly on the wonderful BBBR souvenir book, which brings together "bikes, battlefields and the wounded" and acts as a lifelong keepsake for those who take on the BBBR challenge!
The Guild strives to analyse, develop and raise the understanding and practice of battlefield guiding, provide an environment to meet fellow guides and share information, expertise and knowledge on a wide range of issues. Since its inauguration in 2003 the Guild has grown, both in numbers and stature. To find out more about the Guild, please visit www.gbg-international.com.
