The Help for Heroes Costa Rica Jungle Trek

Here at H4H, we are constantly reminded of the strength and determination of our wounded Heroes; they demonstrate true courage, spirit and humour in the face of extreme hardship. They are truly inspiring and we think they deserve the best, which is why we are so excited to introduce our Costa Rica Trek for 2012. We hope that our wounded Heroes will inspire you to take on your own challenge by getting involved, to do something for yourself and also raise money to give something back to these incredible young men and women.

Everything from palm tree-lined tropical beaches to smoking volcanoes, cloud forest, rainforest and mangrove swamp await us in the paradise country of Costa Rica! Our coast-to-coast challenge will take us from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast on foot and raft. We will travel through coffee plantations and oak forests, deep into cloud forest and dense tropical rainforest where we will be serenaded by howler monkeys and exotic birdcalls.

Starting in the capital San Jose, our route takes us through thriving rural communities before we make our way into the rainforest. Watch out for wildlife such as beautiful tree frogs, some no larger than your fingernail, which are perfectly camouflaged amongst the vegetation of the forest. After marvelling at Turrialba, one of the highest volcanoes in Costa Rica, we will drive to the Pacuare River to raft around 30km in grade III-IV rapids. Not for the feint-hearted! From our finishing point at Siquerres, we will then head to Matina and walk the final part of our journey to the Caribbean Coast. Adrenaline junkies and sun-seekers alike will get their fix on this trip!

Costa Rica is home to five percent of the planet's biodiversity and, although it is tropical all year round, it is made up of many microclimates that all add to the country's spectacular landscape. This is a challenging trip through remote and rarely visited regions. The terrain is tough with some hard climbs but the rewards are immense; during the trip we will have the rare opportunity to work with one of the local communities before finishing at the coast, where we will stay for our celebration dinner and a day on a beautiful tropical beach.

Day 1: Depart from London Heathrow to San Jose
Day 2: Arrive at coastal start point, the beginning of our adventure across Costa Rica
Day 3: Trek from Londres to San Isidro into the edge of the rainforest
Day 4: Into the rainforest and camp site at Cascades
Day 5: Through dense rainforest, with beautiful birds and howler monkeys
Day 6: Trek through small communities and agricultural land to Santa Maria de Dota
Day 7: Walk through several villages from Santa María de Dota to La Esperanza
Day 8: Follow the track through the jungle before the drive to Turrialba
Day 9: Turrialba to the Caribbean Coast – trekking and rafting
Day 10: Free day on the beach to relax and unwind after our trek.
Day 11: Drive back to San Jose and depart San Jose
Day 12: Arrive UK

	Help For Heroes called for the people of Great Britain to help us raise money for our blokes and boy, have you stepped up to the challenge! All over the country, people are taking part in H4H challenges, baking cakes, shaving heads, parachuting, walking, hiking, cycling and much much more to raise money for our wounded boys and girls. Don't feel you have to take on a difficult challenge or lay on a massive event; every event is special to us and each and every contribution is valued the same way. Registration fee:	£360
Fundraising Target:	£3600.00 Excluding Registration Fee
Sponsorship targets and dates to be received:	Reg fee upon registering: - £2000.00 by 1st Dec 2011
(Please be advised that if this is not received it may result in you losing your place on the challenge!)
Final Sponsorship Payments: Remaining by the 1st April 2012 *please note that the registration fee is non-refundable and cannot be used as part of your sponsorship

Help for Heroes challenges are unique; there's something extra special about knowing you're doing your bit for others while taking an incredible step for yourself. They are tough, but previous trekkers have reported a real sense of 'banding together' on our challenges - the support that our participants give each other is amazing.

Others have reported making true friends for life and feeling that their whole life has changed for the better. Our fundraising targets are a minimum, however many people find that they far surpass what they hoped to raise. Support our wounded Service personnel, sign up to a incredible experience in 2012!
