It started as a small partnership with a local family-run butchers.

10 years on, Alf Turner Butchers has raised an incredible £250,000 for our veterans and their families.

Let’s go back to the beginning of this fantastic partnership…

Alf Turner served in the Royal Army Service Corps for 20 years. Upon leaving the Armed Forces, he opened his butcher’s shop in Aldershot, home of the British Army.

Carrying on his grandfather's legacy, Paul Turner still uses his grandfather's house as his butchers shop. The office is what was his grandmother's kitchen. Because of Alf being an Army veteran, for Paul it was a natural decision to support our cause. He got in touch simply asking 'how can I help?'.

With the backing of none other than Dragon’s Den’s Peter Jones, Paul and the Alf Turner team launched a range of award-winning sausages in 2012.

"This investment had everything that I look for; a passionate individual, a wonderful product that is a little different from its rivals and a great back story of a traditional family butcher taking on and beating the competition” - Peter Jones

Fast forward two years, the infamous Dragon's Egg launched, selling over one million scotch eggs in it's first year alone (we're assured no dragons were harmed in the creation of this product)!

Customers have called the scotch egg 'out of this world', leading Paul and the team to try and launch one of the eggs into space to raise awareness and even more donations. On the 5 June 2021, a Dragon's Egg was launched into space, reaching 79,000 feet above earth's surface, creating a product that was quite literally out of this world.

And if that wasn't enough, 2015 saw Dragon's Fury, the fiery chilli pork crackling snack which is a modern twist on a much loved British snack, and more traditional pork scratchings added to the range!

Most recently, the Field Kitchen Spices were created, with the delicious flavours of

Salt & Szechuan:
the everyday hero

Lemon & Fennel: the zesty hero

Cumin & Coriander: the curry hero

Carolina Reaper: the spicy hero

Paul and the team have also done some fantastic work on raising awareness of how beneficial cooking can be for our mental health and wellbeing.

Earlier this year, Paul, alongside two of our ambassadors, joined BBQ King Marcus Bawdon to learn the art of BBQ.

Rupert Bates from The BBQ Magazine captured the day perfectly.

With up to 40p from the sale of the Alf Turner products donated to our cause, the £250,000 milestone was reached this month - an incredible achievement!

Paul and the Alf Turner team have offered us unwavering support since 2012, a commitment that is truly extraordinary and makes a huge difference to the lives of our veterans and their families.

Working closely with Paul has shown me the passion and dedication he has for supporting Help for Heroes. Reaching this magnificent milestone of £250,000 raised in support of our veterans and their families is just phenomenal. I'm very proud to be the account manager on this friendly, warm and positively perfect partnership" - Helena Burley
