Help for Heroes Raises £4 million
In just six months, Help for Heroes has raised an astonishing £4million for service personnel injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Started in October last year, the charity has gained the support of hundreds of thousands of people across the UK and beyond, including Princes William and Harry, serving members of the armed forces and also many celebrities such as Jeremy Clarkson and David Beckham. The money raised by Help for Heroes will fund a swimming pool and new gym complex at Headley Court, the tri- service rehabilitation centre in Surrey.
“We are delighted to announce that we have just topped £4 million”, comments Bryn Parry, the founder of the charity. “This money has mainly come from the general public who have decided to show our wonderful servicemen and women that they support and care for them and want to give something back.”
Along with huge fundraising efforts from the media, such as The Sun and The Sunday Times, it’s the effort of hundreds of individuals that have made it possible for such a huge amount of money to be raised. These include events happening across the globe on an almost daily basis, from sponsored parachute jumps in Wiltshire to marathons in the Sahara.
