On your marks, get set...GO!
Looking for your next fundraising challenge? Our virtual challenge is adaptable for all abilities and you'll be raising life-changing funds for the Armed Forces community.
Participants are challenged to run 80km during the month of May. If you can do 3 kilometres a day you'll smash it! The funds you raise will help provide life-changing support to veterans and their families. The challenge officially starts on 1 May.
FUNDRAISING
Amazing supporters like you have raised £150 in their previous virtual challenges, but why not go miles ahead of the rest? We are here to help every step of the way and can provide plenty of ideas and tips to help you smash that target.
This is your challenge, so you can do it any way you like. There's no pressure, take things at your own pace and do whatever feels comfortable.
Meet Rob
Rob’s military career spanned 25 years, before his long-term battles with depression and PTSD brought it to an unexpected close. Despite declaring himself “not a natural runner”, he first took it up back when training for the Army. Many years later, he would find himself taking on the “toughest, highest and coldest” running challenges possible: the Marathon des Sables, the Everest Marathon and the North Pole Marathon.
Rob's Top Tips for the 80km Run Challenge:
We asked Rob for some tips on how to take on the 80km run challenge:
- Take it easy. Injuries generally happen when people do too much too soon.
- Build up your distance gradually.
- There is nothing wrong with walking some of your run. A huge part of the beauty of running is being outdoors. It doesn’t matter if you need walking breaks!
- Work it into your routine to minimise making excuses not to run.
- Speak to someone who already runs – they already know what running can do for people, so will be more than willing to help you.
- Try running with a running ‘buddy’.
- Consider joining a club.
